Our Modelling team supports sustainable fisheries and aquaculture by applying a range of quantitative and statistical methods – from established approaches to customised stock assessment models and broader ecological and population dynamics modelling.

Led by Dr Katie Cresswell, our Modelling team aims to inform evidence-based decision-making and deepen understanding of marine species and ecosystems across Tasmania and Australia.

We contribute directly to stock assessments used by managers and stakeholders, including regular updates for the national Status of Australian Fish Stocks (SAFS) reports. Our work spans biological and ecological research, resource assessments, and strategic advice for fisheries policy and management.

The Modelling team leads research in quantitative fisheries science and works closely with other IMAS teams, particularly Human Dimensions, Wild Fisheries, and Dive Fisheries. We are also actively involved in teaching and student supervision, helping to build capacity in fisheries science and management.
