Australian Maritime College (AMC) Bursary

Supporting you to study with us.

This bursary covers between 25% and 30% of the registered tuition fees for up to two years of the Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Nautical Science) or Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Marine Engineering). Applicants must have an offer for an eligible course commencing in 2025, and commencing Year 1 or Year 2 of the program

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be classified as an International Student as defined under the Application rules of the University of Tasmania.
  • Must be commencing either year 1 or year 2 of the Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Nautical Science) or Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Marine Engineering) in 2025.
  • Must be enrolled full-time.
  • Not be in receipt of any other University of Tasmania bursary (with the exception of the English Language Package bursary).
  • Not be commencing at the University of Tasmania through an articulation agreement with a partner institution.

Year 2 (Deck Watchkeeper)

  • 30% reduction in registered tuition fees for students entering year 2.

Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Marine Engineering) - Engine Cadet Training Program (first and second year of the bachelor's course)

  • 25% reduction in registered tuition fees for year 1 and 2

Year 2 (Engine Watchkeeper)

  • 25% reduction in registered tuition fees for students entering year 2.

No bursary is available for students entering year 3 of the courses.

Apply

Students are assessed automatically upon submission of their International Student Application so there is no need to apply separately. Offer letters will notify applicants if they have been awarded the bursary.

Terms and Conditions

  1. The 2025 AMC Bursary may be offered to international students who meet the below eligibility criteria and are commencing their studies in an eligible course in any study period in 2025.
  2. The bursary amount provides a reduction on tuition fees which varies depending upon the course and the point at entry into the course.

    Advanced Diploma Applied Science (Nautical Science) - Navigation Cadet Training Program

    • 30% reduction in registered tuition fees for year 1 and 2.

    Year 2 (Deck Watchkeeper)

    • 30% reduction in registered tuition fees for students entering year 2.

    Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Marine Engineering) - Engine Cadet Training Program

    • 25% reduction in registered tuition fees for year 1 and 2

    Year 2 (Engine Watchkeeper)

    • 25% reduction in registered tuition fees for students entering year 2.

    No bursary is available for students entering year 3 of the courses.

    *Please note the fees payable in 2025 is based on the 2025 annual rate and bursary amount. The fees are subject to vary based on any credits offered and/or additional units to be completed as per regulatory requirements. Fees payable for units of study undertaken in 2026 are subject to indexation and are indicative only.

  3. The bursary will be given in the form of an annual tuition fee bursary applied to tuition fees at the start of each study period provided the recipient is enrolled post census date in an eligible course and is studying onshore in Australia.

To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

4. be classified as an International Student as defined under the application rules of the University of Tasmania;

5. commencing at the University of Tasmania in 2025 in one of the following eligible courses:

a. Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Nautical Science) OR
b.
Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Marine Engineering)

6. not commencing at the University of Tasmania through an articulation agreement with a partner institution (e.g. 2 + 2-degree programs), and

7. The bursary recipient may not defer the commencement of their Eligible Course beyond 2025;

8. be enrolled full-time, (a minimum 37.5 credit points for each study period is considered full-time);

9. not be in recipient of another University of Tasmania Bursary (with the exception of the English Language Package).

10. Bursary recipients who have an approved Leave of Absence during their study will have their bursaries suspended until they return at the end of their approved break (up to a maximum of 12 months).

11. Applicants will be notified whether they have been awarded the bursary in their Letter of Offer.

12. Any photographs and/or videos, taken by the University, of 2025 Tasmanian International Bursary recipients may be used in publicity material to promote the University and its bursary program. By agreeing to these terms and conditions, the bursary recipient agrees to the use of photos and videos, and agrees that the University may reproduce, and/or publish their image, their name and story in relation to the bursary without compensation.

13. Personal information about students is managed in accordance with the University Privacy Statements and Privacy Policy.

14. A student may contact the University in relation to the personal information that the University holds by contacting the International Student Recruitment Team at Your.Study@utas.edu.au or calling +613 6226 6200.

15. This bursary cannot be combined with another University of Tasmania bursary or bursary (excluding a support package) and this bursary is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash.

16. This bursary will be discontinued if the recipient:

a. defers their start date beyond 2025;
b. completes their course early;
c. is unable to pay their fees by the due date each semester;
d. withdraws from their course/s;
e. is excluded from the University for any reason;
f. does not enrol in any units within a half year period without an approved Leave of Absence
g. is absent from study for more than 12 months; and
h. breaches of any of the University’s ordinances, rules of conduct, policies and procedures.

17. If at any stage during or following the process of assessing and awarding a bursary, any documents provided as part of the recipient’s international student application is found not to be genuine; the bursary will be immediately withdrawn.

18. International students on a Student Visa (subclass 500) must continue to satisfy the criteria for the grant of a visa and must maintain satisfactory attendance in their course and course progress for each study period as required by the University of Tasmania.

19. All bursaries are awarded at the University’s discretion.

20. The University of Tasmania reserves the right to revoke any bursary at any time if a student is found to have provided information that is false or misleading, does not meet the bursary eligibility criteria (including admission requirements), or does not comply with the ongoing bursary conditions.

21. The University excludes all liability to the maximum extent permitted by law.

22. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Tasmania.

23. Any communication relating to the Tasmanian International Bursary will be sent to the email address provided in the application to study.

24. The University reserves the right to update or amend these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice. The University will provide notice of any changes to these terms and conditions in writing if it deems it necessary and practical.

25. All decisions made by the University of Tasmania in respect to the bursary are final and not subject to review.
